Native to Asia, Cast Iron Plant has the botanical name Aspidistra elatior that part of the Asparagaceae family. This perennial houseplant can grow around 2 feet long and 4 inches wide. They will bloom the flower during spring and summer and have white or purple flowers.


Care the Cast Iron Plant

About caring for this houseplant, you can put them in a shady area and avoid direct sunlight. It can burn and bleach the leaves. Cast Iron Plants prefer organic-rich soil with a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH. Or plant them in the soil as long as have good drainage. 

Although this houseplant is drought tolerant, water them regularly to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Don't forget to fertilize them monthly during spring and summer. And not doing it in fall or winter. Make sure to keep this plant in an area with a temperature between 60 and 75 degrees F.


Propagation

Use division to propagate Cast Iron Plants. Take a piece of rhizome that is located underground stem and includes at least 2 leaves. Then, plant in soil that is lightly moist and has good drainage. Keep the new plant warm, but avoid direct light. 

If you find new shoots develop, it means that your new Cast Iron Plant has developed the root system and its hardiness.
